Patterns that encourage the observer to imagine
Sara Klein Svensson has grown up in Lund, lived for many years in Malmö, but has now moved to Ravlunda in Österlen, where art is thriving!
She commuted between Malmö and Copenhagen to Danmark’s Design Skole. She passed her final exams with the newly created collection, named
PLACES.
”My graduation project is based on the curiosity that was aroused in me during the time I lived in Malmö. Around me were people from different parts of the world, people who tried to create a new life and a new home for themselves in Sweden. I started t o think about the places from which they had come. I wondered where they were and what they were like. What personal stories did these persons have about ”their” places? Based on statistics of the native countries of the immigrants in Malmö, I chose my three countries. I then had
interviews with the people about the ”places” in their native countries. In the course of the interviews I came across certain words, that later became the substructure of the further development of my three patterns.
My patterns are created for public interiors and in a subtle way I want them to narrate the stories from the different places to the observer - with the help of my interpretation. My aim was to create patterns that would encourage the observer to use his/her imagination. In this way I wanted to create a vibrant and pleasant feeling in the interior decoration. The countries I have worked with are Iraq, former Yugoslavia and Bosnia.“
This is a very exciting collection, where the patterns are composed of symbols and where the inspiring countries’ cultural style is captured in a brilliant way and transformed into the strict style we associate with ”public interior decoration” in Sweden. The whole of ”Places collection” is printed on Trevira CS satin and is therefore flameproof.
