I travelled to Japan...
I travelled to Japan and encountered a world of patterns and forms that felt both familiar and completely new.
I went to India and met with colour. Here was my whole palette! ”KIMOMO COLLECTION” became in my adaptation a fusion of these worlds and sources of inspiration;
my most personal Nordic interpretation of the patterns and coulors of the Orient. This happened in 2003.
The strict line is intercepted by the ink-blot. The perfect circle is fragmented into complex geometrical patterns continuing for ever. The wave is broken up in millions of grains of sand.
The foliage of of the maple-leaves become pixels and then returns to a strictly stylized form. You can find indigo everywhere in Japan and India. I tried to learn everything about this dying-technique and then to transfer this fantastic blue colour to the screen print.
In my paint-box my palette is still waiting, because we start by showing patterns in only two colour families: the indigo-blue and the turquoise colour-range that is combined with a sepia-brown nuance. Later, I hope, we will have the opportunity to add a few scarlet and saffron-yellow shades of the Orient!“
It felt natural to print the new collection on flame-protected Trevira CS in order to meet the modern requirements for textile decoration of the public environment.
”KIMONO COLLECTION” consists of 8 patterns that can be combined endlessly and you can have them all in an indigo-blue shade.
